Beatles Stereo Box Set

It’s hard to believe that 2009 has been one of the biggest years for The Beatles (and Michael Jackson.) This year was so big because after years of waiting The Beatles music was finally remastered and released on CD.

The Beatles Mono Box Set

The box set that has gained the most attention of really big Beatles fans is probably the mono box because it’s the first time in decades that The Beatles mono mixes have been available to purchase new in any format.

Some “purist” Beatles fans believe that the mono mixes were really the way their music was originally meant to be listened to and these “mono purists” have good reason for believing that. It was the mono mixes that most people listened to back in the 1960s and The Beatles spent the majority of their time working on getting the mono mixes just right. Meanwhile, the band spent almost no time working on the stereo mixes up until The White Album.

The Beatles in Stereo Box Set

2009’s most popular Beatles release has been this awesome box set. It’s been an enormous unit shifter and for good reason. It includes their complete ‘62-’70 discography in brilliantly remastered stereo. These remastered Beatles songs sound absolutely brilliant (these CDs are definitely far superior to the 1987 Beatles CDs you likely own now.)

The really big improvement in comparison to the old CDs can be heard in the way McCartney’s bass cuts through the mix more so than ever before and Ringo’s drums sound far better than they used to as well. I also love how the vocals sound, now I can hear each harmony part distinctly.

The Beatles Remastered Stereo USB

This is a digital version of The Beatles Remastered Stereo Box Set. It includes both 320kbps mp3s and 24bit FLAC files. Along with the audio files, this Apple USB stick also includes the visual elements from the stereo box set such as the 13 album documentaries, the extensive liner notes for each album, and the previously unpublished photos.

The Beatles USB memory stick is compatible with both Mac and PC computers. The mp3s that it contains should work with no problems with any mp3 player (whether it be a Zune, an iPod, or a generic machine.)

The really big improvement compared to the old discs are heard in the way Paul’s bass guitar blasts through the mix more so than ever before and Ringo’s drums sound far better than they used to as well. Another obvious improvement is in the way the vocals sound, particularly the clarity of the backing vocals.
