Is Older Better? Ask a Vintage Guitar

Why is the older guitar the more sought after guitar? Hand made guitars age well over time. The tone will become more balanced or delicate  as they say.
What does it mean to have a vintage guitar.

 

There are other considerations that matter when you are thinking about a vintage guitar. If a guitar was made only in a short run and color, this makes it more unavailable and raises the price, generally speaking. Martin guitars have various models that were made in short runs to begin with so are instantly collectable.

 

The Les Paul Gold Top guitar is a vintage guitar that was sought after for its finish as well as its quality and sound. Some guitars such as the Fender Stratocaster were prized because the manufacturing process was more sought after in a certain time period. Famous guitarists lend their name and endorse special guitars known as signature guitars. This does not make them vintage but it does increase their value. If a guitar was played by someone like Jimi Hendrix or BB King, that would make it more sought after.If the guitar was played at a big concert like Woodstock, that would make it more sought after as well. A guitar can be prized if it is also highly playable and has a great sound, regardless of the age.

 

Guitar amplifiers are also considered to be vintage in some cases. Some of the amplifiers that fit into this category are Fender,Vox and Marshall. The tube circuitry is largely responsible for the sound of these amps.

 

Many vintage guitars today are prized as works of art and are treated as such. History is in your hands if you have a vintage guitar.Knowing that so and so played the guitar really adds to its reputation  and enjoyment. Modern rock and roll came into being with these instruments.

 

Many of the vintage guitars we see today, have been restored, to make them sound and play as close to the as possible.
